THE VEDA
What is Veda?
वेदः साक्षात् परं ज्ञानम्
The word “Veda” (वेद) is derived from the Sanskrit root “वि द्” (vid), which means “to know,” signifying
knowledge or wisdom. Vedas are considered the highest form of expertise encompassing many subjects, including philosophy, rituals, ethics, and cosmology.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda (आयुर्वेद), a Sanskrit term combining “āyus” (life) and “Veda” (knowledge), translates to “TheScience of Life.”
It is an ancient natural and holistic medicine system that aims to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit. Ayurveda provides guidance on daily routines, diet, lifestyle, and treatment methods to prevent and cure diseases, ultimately promoting longevity and well-being. It is not just a medical system but a way of life, emphasizing balance in all aspects of human existence.
The Origin of Ayurveda
Ayurveda has its roots in the ancient Indian subcontinent, with origins tracing back over 5,000 years. It is considered to be a divine gift to humanity, passed down from the gods to the sages, and eventually to mankind. Ayurveda was first revealed to humanity by Lord Brahma, the creator in Hindu mythology. He imparted this knowledge to the sages who then documented it in texts for future generations. Ayurveda was later systematized and written down in classical texts known as the Samhitas. The most prominent of these are the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and the Ashtanga Hridaya, which provide comprehensive details on medical practices, surgical procedures, and the use of herbs and minerals.
Ayurveda in the Atharva Veda
The Atharva Veda, one of the four canonical texts of Hinduism, contains the earliest references to Ayurveda. Within its hymns, there are descriptions of medicinal plants, healing rituals, and mantras intended to cure various ailments. The Atharva Veda highlights the connection between health and spirituality, emphasizing that disease can be influenced by both physical and metaphysical factors. The medicinal practices detailed in the Atharva Veda laid the groundwork for the development of Ayurveda as a comprehensive system of healthcare. The Veda not only seeks to explore and present the profound knowledge embedded in the Vedas but also to preserve and promote the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda for modern wellness and spiritual growth.
Through this platform, we aim to connect ancient wisdom with contemporary life, offering resources,
